A recent article in Marie Claire Magazine reported that Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge, is a fan of Spirulina and adds it to her green juice every morning. Naturally, we were intrigued to find out what this juice suitable for a member of the royal family tastes like, so we asked blogger and popular instagrammer, Fleur @nourishingfoods to give it a try last weekend and review her experience. Read on to find out what she had to say.
Fleur is from The Netherlands and has been a vegan for 3 years. She regularly shares healthy plant-based recipe inspiration with her 17,000+ followers and has been adding Sevenhills Wholefoods Organic Raw Spirulina Powder to her smoothies since January this year. She’s a big fan of green juices, so she knows just how nourishing they can be for your body and how good they can taste with the right balance of ingredients.
“When I found out that The Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, keeps her health in check by adding one special ingredient to her smoothie every day: Spirulina, it didn’t come as too much of a surprise. Spirulina is packed with plant protein, antioxidants and is extremely high in a variety of micronutrients. I have been using Sevenhills Organic Raw Spirulina Powder for a while now and I love the quality. I add it to my breakfast smoothies regularly, so I was looking forward to giving this recipe a try.
I make a lot of green smoothies and juices and have always tried to make sure they taste nice, but looking at the ingredients in Kate’s smoothie, I wasn’t entirely convinced it would be the nicest I’ve tried.
Kate’s smoothie consists of Spirulina, blueberries, spinach, kale, romaine lettuce and coriander, so it’s definitely packed full of greens.
– ¾ of a cup of frozen blueberries
– 1 cup of spinach
– ½ cup of chopped kale
– ½ cup of chopped romaine lettuce
– 1 tsp Sevenhills Wholefoods Organic Raw Spirulina
– ¼ cup of coriander
– 1 ½ cups of water
Days begin at the palace with plenty of healthy greens.
I am someone who can handle really green juices and smoothies, but in my opinion this wasn’t the most delicious smoothie. However, it is packed full of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, so I can see why she makes it every day, and I’m sure it gets her off to a good start.
If you want to give this a try and don’t like the taste, I would recommend adding a frozen banana or some dates. This should sweeten it up a bit and make it more enjoyable.
Overall I would definitely recommend giving this a try! It’s a simple way to make sure you’re getting some good quality nutrients into your diet first thing in the morning and I find that a green smoothie for breakfast keeps me buzzing through until lunchtime.”
